Doesn’t answer the question, but both slavery and industrialisation are responses to labour shortages. They are, however, contradictory responses. Hence industrialisation in the Free States and the paucity of it in the Slave States. But that doesn’t stop slave productivity in slave societies (including from the slave trade itself) providing a surplus feeding into industrialisation into a non-slave state.
